Earth Month Spotlight: Daily Acts

Earth Month Spotlight: Daily Acts

Barber Insurance loves Daily Acts. Not only do we fullheartedly support their mission and vision, but we also contribute annually, contributing to the success of their holisitic programming in our Sonoma County community.

Daily Acts was born in 2002 and is founded on the belief that by reclaiming the power of our daily actions, we can transform our lives, our homes, gardens and neighborhoods and that through inspired action, education and collaboration, we can create more nourishing, connected and resilient communities. We can be the change we wish to see in the world, and it starts with each one of us.

Today, in honor of Earth Month, we'd like to highlight just a few of their incredible resources. As their name indicates, their programming incentivizes small, daily actions, making the path to a better tomorrow both tangible and feasible for the community.

Webinars We Love:

Water-Wise Gardening for Birds and Pollinators
Join Daily Acts and Veronica Bowers of Native Songbird Care and Conservation for an informative afternoon discussion on how to build habitat in our gardens to support pollinators and other wildlife. During this talk you will learn how you can play a support role to our ecosystem while also creating a colorful, lush, and low-water use garden sanctuary. Veronica will highlight large and small scale habitat gardens, as well as container gardening as a viable and beautiful way to invite pollinators to any space! Explore the benefits of attracting insects and birds, and watch how your garden will transform over the months. Pollinator and habitat gardens benefit everyone, come and learn how you can get started on creating your own!
Wildfires & our Ecology: How can we create defensible space?
Daily Acts, the Town of Windsor, the Resilient Landscape Coalition and members of the Sonoma County Fire District partnered for a panel webinar focused on wildfires, ecology, and creating defensible space. Panelists provided detailed descriptions of methods for creating a firer safer landscape, and how you can weave together defensible space and biodiversity in your landscapes. The webinar ended with a Q+A with attendees and all panelists.

Support Guides For First Steps:

Grow a Garden!
Welcome abundance into your landscape by starting or expanding your garden with edible, herbal and/or habitat plants. Starting a garden is more than just growing plants – it’s a pathway to a richer, more connected life colored by nutritious food, useful products and a homegrown ecosystem powered by the sun.
To help you and your garden thrive, we’ve created video how-to guides and written resources on preparing your site, starting seeds, transplanting, harvesting, and propagating! From planting a fruit tree or shrub to growing a row to share with others, there are 7 different actions you can pledge today to Grow a Garden.

Save Resources - Go Zero Waste or Save Water Resources
By adopting clever but simple practices like harvesting the rain and committing to shop second-hand, we can support the health of our planet and ensure there’s enough resources for all. Enough is as good as a feast! That mindset translates to all aspects of our lives, and by conserving resources like electricity and minimizing waste we can help both local ecosystems and the planet to thrive.
Build Civic Engagement
Just as your daily actions are powerful, so is your voice! People power is beautifully boundless, so let’s reclaim it! By engaging with our community and participating in local democracy, we can build connectivity and steer the ship toward resilience, equity and justice. By lending your voice, you can help build a world that works for everyone. Check out these actions to start connecting with your neighbors and driving policy change on issues like climate change and environmental health.
Practice Self Care
Tend your inner garden! Who do you want to be in this difficult time? What contributions do you want to make? Are you taking care of yourself? Take time to center, ground, and re-align with your strengths and values. Up-level your personal habits and practices, from meditation and journaling to getting enough rest and eating well. We’ll be offering you some resources and practices for syncing up your personal compass and setting yourself up to thrive.
